The company complied with a classified U.S. government demand, scanning hundreds of millions of Yahoo Mail accounts at the behest of the National Security Agency or FBI, said three former employees and a fourth person apprised of the events.

Swell.

I’ve had a Yahoo email account since about 1999 — or soon after they announced the service, and for the past decade or so, I’ve used it exclusively for signing up for store accounts on the internet. As a result, the bulk of spam directed at me goes to that account.

Now, with Verizon set to take over the whole thing, it’s probably best to leave once and for all.
